Introducing quality standards into the Careers Centre

Introducing quality standards into the careers centre is a challenge for many European and other universities world wide where the practice and guidelines for careers guidance and employer liaison is still being established. How do you develop a benchmark for professional careers staff which is objective, will not date quickly and will be respected by other colleagues and managers in your institution are just some of the questions addressed in this training programme.

The approach taken is to examine the Matrix standard which has been established in the UK for a number of years alongside other quality frameworks such as Investors In People and the Quality Assurance Agency. Participants will be asked to explain their current working practice and how the criteria used in the UK could be applied as well as exploring alternative ways of applying quality standards. The aim is to provide a basis for users, managers and colleagues to understand the purpose and range of services on offer by the careers centre. At the conclusion of the programme the practitioner will have a framework to be able to articulate what are the standards they operate to and what is meant by quality assurance in the context of their own country and university. It will also provide a process to enable continuous quality improvement.

The quality standards training programme takes a minimum of 2 days and is relevant to careers advisers, other careers centre staff such as those specialising in employer liaison, quality managers and civil servants responsible for Higher Education policy.
